Psychiatry resident Amber Thompson receives American College of Psychiatrists PRITE fellowship

Amber Thompson, MD, a second-year resident in general psychiatry, was selected by the American College of Psychiatrists as one of four companions to join his editorial board of the residents' psychiatry training (prite) review board.

Dr. Thompson, who specializes in community psychiatry, is the first resident of the University of Massachusetts School of Medicine to be selected for the ACP scholarship.

"It was a great honor to receive the award," Thompson said. "I look forward to working with psychiatrists who lead to help build the knowledge base of psychiatric residents across the country.

The board serves as an educational resource for residents to compare knowledge with their peers. For program managers of psychiatry, the review provides a better understanding of the action that residents can use to evaluate their programs. Thompson said knowing when a resident might need improvement can help guide future education plans.

In compiling the content of the review, the PCA chooses resident programs in the United States and Canada to participate in the Pritee Board as a way to include the opinions of residents of psychiatry who take the examination. The creation of test questions is of interest to Thompson, who previously developed test questions with friends to prepare for exams.

"It's really necessary to dig deeper into the literature to create questions that test pertinent and timely information," he said. .
