NHS principal: AP testing equips students for college

While the school board members evaluated the standardized test results at their meeting on Tuesday evening, Newburyport High School administrators noticed that while students score lower than advanced tests, they are better equipped to meet the needs of students. Of course.

High School Principal Michael Parent and Director of Guidance Patricia Blackstock emphasized the benefits of attending PA classes. The data showed that students who follow a maximum of five AP courses do well in the course.

"Some people can manage a lot and play three sports and make a theater up there," said parent. "Even students who score one or two get better results when they are at university level."

Students may or may not receive a college credit for an AP class, depending on the score achieved.

AP tests are assessed on a scale of 1 to 5, according to The College Board.

A score of 5 is the highest, which means that the student is highly qualified to receive a study credit for this course. A score of 4 means that students are well qualified, a score of 3 indicates that the student is qualified. A grade of 2 means that the student can or can not be qualified, and a grade of 1 does not offer a recommendation for tuition fees, according to the College Board.

Blackstock said she sees more students who choose to take the American College test on the academic aptitude test as a standardized placement exam. While the SAT is focused on understanding and writing, ACT mainly examines mathematical and scientific skills, making it even more important, according to Blackstock, to improve the fundamental concepts of mathematics.

School administrators said that high school is going to be a host school to offer ACT as a test area to encourage Newburyport students to extend their standardized test options.

"This way it would be offered in a familiar environment," said Blackstock, adding that the stress of taking exams and standardized tests on regular school work can put a lot of pressure on students.

School officials noted that the overall emotional development of students has an effect on academic success, with students with a high number of absences being called throughout the year. Blackstock and parent encourage students to go to school and explore new ways, through teaching methods and learning styles, to encourage students to re-learn.

"The social and emotional component is real and it affects students in low scoring areas," said parent.
